Yard Lighting
Problem Identification

      To illuminate Marshalling Yards, lights have to be fitted on Lighting Mast Towers of suitable height in such a way that wide area right from close to the tower be uniformly illuminated because most of the Towers are installed close to the rail tracks. Rail tracks are in fact the ones which require good illumination.
      Lighting should be such that Engine Drivers can shuttle around without facing glare and resultant obstructions.

Our flood lights being high intensity, long range type having lasting performance due to highly polished stainless steel reflectors have proved economical and useful. These lights when fitted on our telescopic tilting type high mast lighting towers with skid base for ease of movement from one place to another and one position to another have proved an ideal proposition. Dump Yard/ Stock Yard/ Loading Point Lighting
Problem Identification

To illuminate Dump Yards / Stock Yards / Loading Points lights have to be fitted on the periphery so that movement of Dumpers is not hindered and dumper operators do not face glare. Areas being large,only long range flood lights can help because DGMS specifies minimum 10 lux illumination all over the place.

Haul Road Lighting
 
Problem Identification
 

For haul road lighting meeting with DGMS requirements the main considerations are longer area coverage and glare free illumination keeping in view the frequent shifting of haul roads. Minimum illumination specified for haul roads is 0.5 - 3.0 lux but experience tells us that minimum 5 - 10 lux illumination should be available on the haul roads so that Dumpers can move even without their headlights on.This eases unstrained movement and with improved productivity.

At metal mines most of the haul roads pass though the ditches of the hilly terrain. During fog prevalent in these areas, dumper operators find it extremely difficult to negotiate the haul roads. These not only strain and fatigue the dumper operators but also cause frequent accidents.

 
Our Recommendations
 

Sigma luminaries can economically meet with all such requirements.since they produce much better illumination. These luminaries when fitted on Sigma mobile telescopic tilting towers placed at strategic locations and aimed judiciously, produce glare free illumination for unhindred movement of dumpers.

For metal mines where fog is a problem, Sigma recommend that one beam light of very high intensity should be installed at each pole and aimed at the centre of the haul road apart from the general illumination strategise followed. These lights should be switched on only at the time of fog and should act as a path-finder.

A red coloured flashing light should be installed on each pole which are installed close to the edge of the ditches as a marker light and aimed in such a way that the dumper operators can identify his limit and avoid accidents with a non-strenuous movement.

For lighting of equipment like Draglines, Shovels, Excavators,Pay Loaders the main considerations are illuminating the working faces, machinery places and undercarriage of these equipment to DGMS requirements. The luminaires are required to be vibration proof to prevent frequent fusing of lamps so that down time due to non-availability of proper light are eliminated.

The functional requirements for illumination at material/coal handling plants are such that the luminaries should be dust, vermin and moisture proof. These sould also be vibration proof to withstand vibrations incidental to the working of the plants. The Luminaries should have corrosion resistive reflectors. The street lights are faced with a problem that light from the lamps do not get reflected out fully and insects entering inside the fittings make them redundant.By introducing pot optics for street lights manufacturers made a good effort to have better light output but high heat of the lamps wear out the shine from the reflectors greatly affecting their efficiency.

Security Search Lights
  Problem Identification
   

A normal human eye can clearly see targets upto 500 meters in day light. It is therefore desirable that the intensity of the security searchlight should be such that a security personnel should be in a position to see & spot targets at a distance of 500 meters with the naked eyes & upto 800 meters with binoculars.

     
   

Next comes the problems of insects invading the watch towers as soon as the search lights are switched on.

     
   

Where the size of the Watch Towers Cabin is more than 2 metres the security personnel finds it difficult to aim the search light close to the base of the watch tower.

     
   

Another important requirement which is gaining ground is that the security personnel should operate from a watch Tower kept in the dark while the search light be fitted on a distant Lights tower and operate the search light with a remote control from watch tower kept in the dark.

     
   

The security personnel feels handicaped when the search light is fitted inside the watch Tower because when the Search Light is switched on the whole cabin gets lighted due to which the outside visibility of the Security Guard is impaired. It is similar to the experience with the cabin light of a car which has to be switched off while driving the car at night.

     
  Our Recommendations
   

We at Sigma have clearly understood these functional problems and designed & developed Searchlights that meet all these requirements. We basically have five type of lighting systems.

    1.

That can be fitted on top of the Watch Tower and operated from inside the cabin of the Tower so that the security man can be protected from the invading insects.

     
    2.

That are provided with a distance piece & can be fitted on top of the Watch Tower for enabling the security man to aim close to the Watch Tower as also to protect him from the invading insects while operating from inside the cabin of the Tower.

     
    3.

That can be fitted inside the watch tower where it is difficult install or maintain these lights on the top of the watch tower mainly due to the shape of the roof of the watch Tower. A movable stand with castrol wheels is also provided to enable the search lights to be towed to close to the windows of the cabin to have better view of the outside thus overcoming the problem of impaired visibility.

     
    4.

That can be fitted on a near by Lights Tower and operated with a remote control from the Watch Tower to protect the security man from being a soft target of the militants.

     
    5.

That can be hand held or vehicle mounted and can be operated from the batteries of the vehicle. These are of great help while chasing a culprit because one can focus the light on him even when he goes out of the range of the jeep headlights.

     
   

The search lights both with HPSV lamp, Metal Halide Lamps or 24 volt halogen lamps are available depending upon the requirement of the customers.

    a.

Since HPSV lamps take about 7 minutes to glow, these should be kept switched on and be used basically for boundary illumination and rotate to see around for security duties.

     
    b.

Search lights with halogen lamps are instantaneous but have a lamp life of 500 hours only against 15000 hours of HPSV lamps and 12000 hours of Metal halide lamps.

     
     

Experience tells us that frequent failure of halogen lamps render them reduntant over a period & as such while selecting a search light the pros and cons of both the systems need to be weighed and considered.

At the time of fire or disaster the normal supply has to be switched off. Since the lights have to work from alternate source of supply, low wattage lights but with high intensity & long range are required.

Interior Lighting

Offices, corridors, workplaces are illuminated at present with 4 x 20 watt, 2 x 40 watt, 1 x 20 watt, 2 x 20 watt and 1 x 40 watt fluorescent tube lights or with incandescent lamps.

A research have shown that fast decay in illumination from the fluorescent tube lights cause fatigue and other resultant diseases. On the top of this energy cost is very high because higher wattage are used to begin with in view of the fast deterioration in illumination.

  Our Recommendations
   

We recommend that Sigma make compact fluorescent lamp fittings with highly polished stainless steel reflectors and eco-friendly electronic ballasts, which fully meet the internationally laid down safety parameters like harmonics,crust factor,input and output currents and frequency etc., can be gainfully used in place of flourescent tube light fittings. Sigma also have stainless steel metal halide fittings in 70 watt & 150 watt which produce uniform wide spread for interior lighting.
