Stock Yard Lighting
Problem Identification

To illuminate Stock Yards , lights have to be fitted on Lighting Mast Towers of suitable height in such a way that wide area right from close to the tower be uniformly illuminated.

Our Recommendations

Our flood lights being high intensity, long range type having lasting performance due to highly polished stainless steel reflectors fitted on our telescopic tilting type towers with ground mounting base have proved economical and useful for Stock Yard Lighting. The required illumination can be had with lesser number of luminaries thus resulting in energy saving.

We recommend the following Sigma lights.

1000 Watt & 400 Watt Long Range HPSV / Metal Halide Flood Lights would be suitable for the above.

Equipment Lighting

Problem Identification

For lighting of equipment like Quenching Locos, SEP machines, Car batteries at Coke Ovens Reclaimers the main considerations are to effectively illuminate the surroundings, machinery places and underneath of these Equipment at steel plants metal refineries. The luminaries are required to be vibration proof to prevent frequent fusing of lamps so that work stoppages due to non availability of proper light are eliminated. The high heat on the Equipment and its surroundings make the working of lights all the more difficult.

Our Recommendations

Sigma luminaries can economically meet all these requirements. We recommend the following Sigma lights for Quenching Locos,SEP Machines, Coke Oven Batteries. The rubber gaskets with our Lights are made of Neoprene rubber which can withstand the high heat at these machines. For installing these Lights close to where flames from coke oven batteries reach we can provide gaskets made of silicon rubber.

We at Sigma recommend the following lights.

Workshops & Mills Lighting

Problem Identification

While illuminating the Mills, workshops & open areas outside the mills it is observed that inspite of fitting large number of highbay lights inside the required lux level of minimum 100 lux at the floor level is not available mainly due to height of the mills & workshops as well as fast decay in illumination due to deterioration of reflecting surfaces of the luminaries.

Non availability of good light at the floor level causes production losses.

For overhead cranes, Sigma lights with specially designed vibration isolators are used.

Our Recommendations
Our flood lights being high intensity, long range type having lasting performance due to highly polished stainless steel reflectors when fitted on our telescopic tilting type towers have proved economical and useful for open areas outside the Mills & Workshops.

For inside workshops our Highbay lights with highly polished faceted stainless steel reflectors are extremely useful for lasting & sustained uniform wide spread and sustained performance.

We recommend the following Sigma luminaries.

Cable Galleries
  Problem Identification

Factories Act specifies that only low voltage lights should be used while working in underground pits and containers etc. Cable galleries get covered under this clause and as such require low voltage lights.

The requirement of lights at cable galleries is very large and the 24 volt 60 / 100 watt incandescent lamps being used produces very high heat and have a short life of approximately 500 hours.

The height available at cable galleries is very low and as such lights with wide spread producing negligible heat and in low wattage are preferred.

  Our Recommendations
Specially designed 22 watt / 36 watt / 72 watt recessed type Sigma lights suitable for operation on 24 volt AC /DC supply can effectively do the job because these lights have wide spread, high intensity and produce negligible heat because of very low wattage. For cable galleries where water also is prevalent we recommend our water tight lights to be used but where water is not a problem our standard indoor lights are recommended.

Loco Shed Pit Lights

  Problem Identification

Pits at loco sheds require low voltage lights because of the safety requirements. Lights can only be fitted on side walls absolutely recessed. These lights should produce light going to the top so that underneath of the engine get sufficient light for ease of repairs.

At present low voltage hand lamps are used. This requires the services of an additional person who can show the light to the working mechanic. Alternately, the mechanic carry light in one hand and work with the other which retard the efficiency of work.

  Our Recommendations

Specially designed 36 watt recessed type Sigma lights can effectively do the job.

Sigma portable and swiveling type 24 volt 100 watt inspection lights with magnetic base can eliminate the requirement of a second person for showing the light or allow the mechanic to work freely with both hands.

Security Search Lights
  Problem Identification

A normal human eye can clearly see targets upto 500 meters in day light. It is therefore essential that an intensity of the security searchlight should be such that a security personnel should be in a position to see & spot targets at a distance of 500 meters with the naked eyes & upto 800 meters with binoculars.

Then comes the problems of insects invading the watch towers moment the search lights are switched on & the requirement of the security personnel to be in a position to focus the search light close to the tower base also.

Where the size of the Watch Towers Cabin is more than 2 metres the security personnel finds it difficult to aim the search light close to the base of the watch tower.

Another important requirement which is gaining ground is that the security personnel should operate from a watch Tower kept in the dark while the search light be fitted on a distant Lights tower and operate the search light with a remote control from watch tower kept in the dark.

The security personnel feels handicaped when the search light is fitted inside the watch Tower because when the Search Light is switched on the whole cabin gets lighted due to which the outside visibility of the Security Guard is impaired. It is similar to the experience with the cabin light of a car which has to be switched off while driving the car at night.

  Our Recommendations

We at Sigma have clearly understood these functional problems and designed & developed Searchlights that meet all these requirements. We basically have five type of lighting systems.

    a.

One, which can be fitted on top of the Watch Tower and operated from inside the cabin of the Tower so that the security man can be protected from the invading insects.

    b.

Two, which are provided with a distance piece & can be fitted on top of the Watch Tower for enabling the security man to focus it close to the Watch Tower as also to protect him from the invading insects while operating from inside the cabin of the Tower.

    c.

Three, which have to be fitted inside the watch tower for difficulty in maintaining these lights when fitted on the top of the watch tower. A movable stand with castrol wheels is also provided to enable it to be towed to the any side of the cabin to have better view of the outside and overcome the problem of impaired visibility outside.

    d.

Four, the Search lights that can be fitted on a Tower and operated with a remote control from a distance Watch Tower to protect the security man from being a soft target of the militants.

    e.

Five, hand held or vehicle mounted low voltage search lights which is of great help since while chasing a culprit one can focus light on him even when he goes out of the range of the jeep headlights.

The search lights both with HPSV lamp, Metal Halide Lamps or 24 volt halogen lamps are available depending upon the requirement of the customers.

    a.

Since HPSV lamps take about 7 minutes to glow, these should be kept switched on and be used basically for boundary illumination and rotate to see around for security duties.

    b.

Search lights with halogen lamps are instantaneous but have a lamp life of 500 hours only against 15000 hours of HPSV lamps and 12000 hours of Metal halide lamps.

Experience tells us that frequent failure of halogen lamps render them reduntant over a period & as such while selecting a search light the pros and cons of both the systems need to be weighed and considered.

Street Lighting
  Problem Identification

The street lights are faced with a problem that light from the lamps do not get reflected out fully and insects entering inside the fittings make them redundant.

By introducing pot optics for street lights manufacturers made a good effort to have better light output but high heat of the lamps wear out the shine from the reflectors greatly affecting their efficiency.

  Our Recommendations

Sigma street lights ensure that no insect, moisture and dust can enter the fitting. The fittings have incorporated pot optic reflectors of highly polished stainless steel thus providing lasting & sustained performance and uniform wide spread.

Interior Lighting
  Problem Identification

Offices, corridors, workplaces are illuminated at present with 4 x 20 watt, 2 x 40 watt, 1 x 20 watt, 2 x 20 watt and 1 x 40 watt fluorescent tube lights or with incandescent lamps.

A research have shown that fast decay in illumination from the fluorescent tube lights cause fatigue and other resultant diseases.

On the top of this energy cost is very high because higher wattage are used to begin with in view of the fast deterioration in illumination.

  Our Recommendations
We recommend that Sigma make compact fluorescent lamp fittings with highly polished stainless steel reflectors and eco-friendly electronic ballasts, which fully meet the internationally laid down safety parameters like harmonics, crust factor, input and output currents and frequency etc., can be gainfully used in place of flourescent tube light fittings. Sigma also have stainless steel metal halide fittings in 70 watt & 150 watt which produce uniform wide spread for interior lighting.

Sigma electronic ballasts are provided with protection circuits both on the input and output side. The fittings can be designed to meet your specific end-use requirements.
